Mountain-Grown Red Wines from El Dorado

Red Wines

Our estate red wines are grown on steep, rocky slopes at elevations up to 2,700 feet in California’s Sierra Foothills. Here, warm days, cool nights, and slate-rich soils bring out intense flavor, aromatic complexity, and a natural balance of acidity and tannin.

We specialize in Rhône varieties — Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and their blends — wines that thrive in our mountain climate just as they do in the south of France. From vibrant, fruit-forward reds to deep, cellar-worthy blends, each bottling is crafted to reflect our vineyard’s character and the personality of the vintage.

Our Approach to Red Winemaking

  • Hand-Harvested – Grapes are picked at optimal ripeness for flavor and balance.
  • Small-Lot Fermentation – Each variety is fermented separately to highlight its unique traits.
  • Thoughtful Blending – Final blends are made to create complexity, balance, and harmony.
  • French and Hungarian Oak Aging – Used to enhance, not mask, the fruit and spice.

Our Red Wines:

Patriarche

Our flagship Rhône-style blend, inspired by Châteauneuf-du-Pape and crafted from Mourvedre, Syrah, Grenache and Counoise.  Rich, layered, and built to age.

Counoise

Bright and lively with red fruit aromas, subtle spice, and fresh acidity. A rare Rhône variety that brings lift and vibrancy to the glass.

Cinsaut

Soft, aromatic, and fruit-forward. Offers gentle tannins and flavors of fresh berries with a hint of floral charm.

Grenache Noir

Juicy cherry and strawberry fruit layered with light spice and a supple texture. Versatile and food-friendly.

Mourvedre Classique

An easy-going Mourvèdre with earthy, fruity aromatics and smooth, approachable tannins.

Mourvedre Estate

Dark, earthy, and complex, with deep fruit flavors and firm, structured tannins.

Carignane

Bright color and vibrant fruit aromas. Ripens at lower sugar levels, producing a lower-alcohol wine that’s exceptionally food-friendly.

Fenaughty syrah

Sourced from Apple Hill’s Fenaughty Vineyard, the second oldest in El Dorado County, this  elegant Syrah has been part of our winemaking tradition since 1999.

east slope syrah

Our bold estate Syrah, grown on the lower section of our east-facing slope looking toward the tasting room. A touch of Hungarian oak adds sweet, caramel-like smoothness.

Cabernet-syrah

Inspired by the elegant Cabernet-Syrah blends of Provence along the Mediterranean coast, this is our one deliberate step beyond our Rhône-only tradition.

Petite sirah

Inky and bold with deep fruit concentration and firm structure — perfect for the cellar.

Lover's leap

Our take on the fruit-driven Côtes du Rhône wines of France’s Rhône Valley. Softer than the Patriarche, with a focus on bright red fruits. Named after Lover’s Leap in Strawberry — the dramatic cliff above the lodge where we were married.  -Josh & Carrie, winemakers
